On Sunday 4th July 2010 Trentham Shakespeare Company used Caverswall Castle as the location for photographs to be used in their brochure of their upcoming production of Romeo and Juliet.

Photographer of the shoot, Roger Norman, suggested the castle as a suitable location after having experienced photographing a wedding here last autumn.

First of all, Roger arrived and we briefly discussed suitable areas to shoot and hoped that the grey clouds move away and the rain kept at bay. Director, Brian Rawlins, followed shortly with a quick view of a room we suggested maybe good if they wanted an indoor shot. Brian and his wife Joy were astounded by the size and intricate carvings of the Regal Suite's large four poster bed. Perfect for the scene where Juliet dies and the nurse attempts to wake her.

The cast arrived and used another room to get changed into their fantastic costumes. Romeo and Juliet appeared complete with a garden grown rose, ready for the photos.

The courtyard was the main location with the architectural back drop of the stone terrace, Gatehouse Turret and the castle's front steps. The upstairs window became an ideal spot for Juliet to look out of whilst Romeo looked up at her for the infamous scene.

The cast then relocated to the grandeur of the Regal Suite. It's oversized and dramatic bed made an excellent scene for Juliet's dying moment with Nurse trying desperately to awaken her.

Photographs from the shoot will follow shortly as the cast begin to learn their lines.

The production will be at the Stoke Repertory Theatre from Tuesday 19th to Saturday 23rd October at 7.30pm. Tickets all at £10 are available from the Ticket Secretary on 01782 779133.
